Halloween can be much more than just trick or treat! There are many different crafts that can be made for children’s entertainment, both at home and in school.
Paper mache! Paper mache is a wonderfully versatile form of making crafts. It can be shaped into just about anything. Paper mache is easy to make, chances are, you already have all the ingredients you need sitting around your home. Here is one way:
Tear up some old newspaper into small pieces, place the torn newspaper in a plastic container and add water until the newspaper is entirely submersed. Let it soak for about 24 hours. Pour it into your blender cup; blend it into a mushy substance. Pour it through a fine strainer, gently pressing to remove the water. Place the remaining mush into a container and add white glue until it forms a consistent paste. This paste can then be formed into whatever shape you intend to make, then let it sit to dry. After it has dried out, sand the rough edges to improve its appearance. After that you can paint it according to preference.
Paper mache can be used to make many different Halloween crafts; jack lanterns, spiders, witches, ghosts, bats, skeletons, etc. With a little practice, you can become an excellent crafter making all sorts of things from paper mache.
Masks! Many different sorts of masks can be made. One way of making a mask is to simply take an adequate sized piece of cardboard, cut out eyes, nose and mouth holes. Print out a mask design picture and glue over the cardboard, punching holes through to match those in the cardboard. Staple or tie string or elastic to the sides and your mask is ready.
